Overall an excellent computer. Sleek, sexy, and powerful. Everything you could want in a computer. My only complaint is the location of the USB ports. There are only three and in front of the disk drive causing wires to be connected towards the front of the computer. Seems like just a poor judgement by Sony on port locations, but would not stop me from buying another. The battery life is not extremely long on the 6 cell lithium ion battery so I highly suggest getting a high capacity battery for this comp. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an entertainment powerhouse that turns heads.

Asus i7 Budget Gaming Notebook with Good Performance

The G51J is the latest 15-inch gaming notebook from ASUS, sporting the new Intel Core i7 mobile processor and Windows 7 operating system. This notebook shares a lot of features with the previous G51VX, with only a hardware refresh to support the Core i7 processor. With a starting price of $1,499, it is priced $200 below the previous version … which is a huge plus for buyers on a budget.

Build and Design
The design of the G51 is very gamer-inspired. The outside graphics are futuristic and cool, without being too over-dramatic for the casual gamer. At first glance the new design almost looks like the edges are scratched into the glossy surface, but upon closer inspection that is just the design of the artwork as it branches out to the top and bottom.

Screen and Speakers
Considering that this notebook will be used for gaming, an excellent screen is a must. The display on the G51 looks above average with good color saturation and better than average viewing angles. The glossy surface helps make the already good looking colors “pop” out at you more than they would on a matte display, as well as improving the looks of dark colors.

Dell XPS M1530 With GeForce 8600M GT

Dells XPS series has brought serious multimedia and computing power to both desktops and laptops for a few years now. The XPS lineup of laptops manages to keep on top of the latest advancements in hardware technology by updating configuration options every two or three months. Remarkably, they manage to keep them pretty affordable too. Dells current 15.4-inch XPS M1530 brings a solid set of performance oriented hardware at a midrange price.

Dell Gaming Laptop, Dell XPS M1530 Standout Specs & Features :-

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 processor
4GB of RAM, DDR2 SDRAM - 667 MHz
500GB hard drive
GeForce 8600M GT video card
1280 x 800 ( WXGA )
High connectivity

From a strictly aesthetic point of view, the Dell XPS M1530 is about as pretty as one could hope for. The Dell XPS M1530 manages to pack a Swiss Army knifes worth of gadgets while still preserving a minimalist professionalism. Add the color options Dell gives you (pink, black and blue), and youre looking at an elegant, yet still personalized laptop.

With a comparably strong graphics controller, the GeForce 8600M GT, powering video, HD movies will look stellar on the Dell XPS M1530s 1440 x 900 resolution screen. No stuttering either, thanks to Intel dual-core processing. Feel like running some apps in the background while you enjoy the Quantum of Solace? Go right ahead, 4GB of RAM equate to smooth sailing when running multiple applications simultaneously.

The Dell XPS M1530 is going to delight the multimedia user more than anyone else. The Dell XPS M1530 has a remote control that tucks comfortably into the chassis of the notebook itself. The remote control in conjunction with the HDMI output on the Dell XPS M1530 allows it to link up with your HDTV for home theater quality audio and video.

Users looking to stay connected at work, home, and everywhere in between will be happy to learn that the Dell XPS M1530 ranks highly in terms of connectivity. In addition to standard wi-fi and Ethernet, youll find the option to include Bluetooth.

The only real complaint we have about the Dell XPS M1530 is the underwhelming video card. Wed love to be able to buy the Dell XPS M1530 with a 512MB video card. Unfortunately, the GeForce 8600M GT only has 256MB of dedicated memory.

Summary
Ultimately, the Dell XPS M1530 is a jack-of-all-trades in the laptop arena. The Dell XPS M1530 will handle multimedia, wi-fi networking, internet, resource-intensive applications, and even manage some casual gaming on the side. For the user with a very specific set of needs, likeDVD authoring, the Dell XPS M1530 might not be the best laptop out there. But, for the civilian user with a love of multimedia and a need for versatility, the Dell XPS M1530 is a great candidateespecially at the price.

Asus Laptop For Gamers - ASUS G2S-A1 Reviews & Specs

Despite a lack of portability, this gaming rig holds its own when it comes to graphics, display, and gaming experience.

Reliable and relatively sturdy, the ASUS G2S-A1 isn’t as portable as some gaming rigs, and it’s not quite able to compete against the most tricked-out and egregiously priced models on the market. But it still has plenty going for it, including DirectX 10 graphics, a knockout display, and a solid gaming experience.

The G2S-A1’s display is noticeably wide and deepe, at 16 x 12 x 1.8 inches. The G2S-A1’s physical layout is similar to ASUS’ G1 notebook. The G2S-A1’s body is black with red inlays and lights.

ASUS G2S-A1 Nvidia Graphic 8600M GT Performance

Nvidia’s GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 256MB of RAM doesn’t quite stack up against the GeForce Go 7950 GTX you’ll find in the highest-end rigs, but driver improvements render it competent, as the 3DMark03 score of 11,817 indicates.

F.E.A.R. frame rates were disappointing, however, hovering around 40 frames per second when we maxed out the resolution and settings. Though that’s not astronomical, performance was solid and reliable, and we’d feel comfortable gaming with this rig in all but the most hardcore competitive sessions. We tested both DirectX 9 and 10 with Company of Heroes, which is known for taxing hardware significantly. With DX 9, we found results similar to those in F.E.A.R., hovering around 45 fps; that’s not stellar, but it’s quite playable, and we managed to keep detail settings high. Under DX 10, the numbers dropped to 20 fps. Such a drop is consistent with nearly any DX 10 rig running Company of Heroes, whether it be a notebook or a tricked-out desktop.

The GPU, in conjunction with the 2.2-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 processor and 2GB of RAM, was enough to ensure good performance with Windows Vista. We saw a respectable PCMark05 score of 5,364, 120 points higher than that of the X205. We’re surprised that ASUS would equip this notebook with only a 5,400-rpm hard drive and not offer an option to upgrade. This is a limiting factor for game performance.

Despite the mediocre frame rates, the 17.1-inch, 1920 x 1200-pixel display is stunning. Colors were vibrant, and texture detail was perfectly crisp, maximizing the effect of the G2S-A1’s capabilities. The speaker system didn’t stack up nearly as well, however; the G2S pumps out merely respectable audio power.

ASUS’ G2S-A1 is a solid performer. The frame rates aren’t soaring, but we managed hours of intense game time without the system hanging or overheating. If you’re more serious about performance, we’d recommend spending the extra $300 for a system like the Toshiba Satellite X205.

With two graphics cards, loads of A/V connections, and a built-in TV tuner, the Alienware Aurora m9700 is made to entertain.

Aurora m9700, the first 17-inch laptop to simultaneously run two graphics processing units. The 17-inch widescreen display serves up vibrant colors and rich images, and graphics pros and those who work in multiple windows will revel in the vast amount of real estate the WUXGA native resolution provides. In addition to two loud stereo speakers on the front edge and a passable subwoofer underneath, we appreciate the m9700’s trio of dedicated jacks for hooking up to a 5.1 sound system.

This notebook comes equipped with a first-class set of multimedia features and connections: In addition to the basics (four USB 2.0 ports, ExpressCard slot, 4-in-1 card reader, and so on), you get an S-Video input and output, VGA and DVI ports, an optical audio jack, and a coaxial socket for the integrated TV tuner. Also included are Windows XP Media Center 2005, a USB infrared receiver and remote, a swiveling, 1.3-megapixel webcam set above the display, and a smattering of quick-touch controls for the dual-layer DVD burner. Although it was not available at press time, Alienware does plan to offer a Blu-ray drive option in the near future.

Networking features range from Gigabit Ethernet and modem jacks to 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and an Airgo MIMO radio designed to boost signals for high-performance wireless gaming. The m9700’s throughput of 10.9 Mbps from 15 feet and 7.3 Mbps from 50 feet was merely average, although our testing did not involve a MIMO-supported router. While it should not stray far from the wall socket, the m9700’s 12-cell battery lasted for 1 hour and 40 minutes in our drain tests-on a par with other desktop replacements.

Alienware Aurora m9700 Graphic Performance

The highlights of our top-shelf configuration were two 512MB Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GS graphics cards in an SLI configuration. Though they’re not the most powerful GPUs on the market, they’re close, and with two of them under the hood, the m9700 delivered a very good 93 fps in our F.E.A.R. benchmark using the autodetect settings (1024 x 768-pixel resolution) and held on at 80 fps with the settings maxed out. The 3DMark03 score of 22,051 was right on track for this class of system. The only system to score higher is the Vigor M59K, at 26,057, but its PCMark05 and battery rundown scores were lower.

Not surprisingly, the machine also displayed pleasingly smooth, sharp video in our testing. While gaming, the m9700’s underside, keyboard, and palm rests remain cool; the back vents and jumbo AC adapter, however, will barbecue anything in their path.

For a premium system, it’s disappointing that the highest-end CPU you can have onboard is the 2.4-GHz AMD Turion 64 Mobile ML44-not a bad processor, but it’s not the pedigree of a dual-core Turion 64 X2 or Core 2 Duo. As a result, the m9700 notched a MobileMark 2005 score of 236-not a record, but proof enough that this laptop can handle any processing task. (Alienware plans to offer a dual-core configuration after the 2006 holiday season.) Processor aside, our m9700 test unit contained some of the best components available, including two 100GB 7,200-rpm SATA hard drives in a RAID 0 configuration and 2GB of DDR2 RAM.

If you’re looking for desktop-PC-caliber gaming performance and multimedia ability in a laptop-sized package, the m9700 is a solid choice.
